During the night (29/30 May 06), Sheppey passed away.




Sheppey had been our friend for over 16 years and will be sadly missed.

Remember This ....

Well, its bank holiday Monday (in the UK), and I was awake before 5.30am. I am watching a old Gregory Peck movie and remember my first posting oversea while serving in The Army, God, what a sad man I must be !



Well, my first oversea's tour was in Bahrain (1968 to 1969). Not having even left the country before, at 18 this camp was where I was to spend the next year. Surprise, there as no "Welcome notice" and "Hope you enjoy your stay".







It was set way out in the desert, away from night life and women but not the beer. A hut like the one in the picture above, held about 20 soldiers, all in one long room. Where was my small little room, where I had been living safe and sound for the last 18 years. A simple question with a simple answer ....... about 5000 miles due West !




So what to do in this place? Lots of sport,drinking and a little work. I had one friend who was by my side (In the form of pictures, around my little space called Home), that was the girl I had a crush on .......... Françoise Hardy. Although I could not speak French (and still cannot), I loved the way she sang. Her good looks had nothing to do with it !!!!!!!




















I remember our pet dog (cannot remember his/her name).Looking at all the photos from that time I spent in a far off land, makes me feel very old....






Cannot remember who said it, but a quote comes to mind ........


"Home is where you hang your hat."

Museum of the Year.

The 19th century iron steamship, The SS Great Britain was named museum of the year. The prize of £100,000 is this countries richest arts award.


This former transatlantic steamship was built in 1843 by Isambard kingdom Brunel and was first launched from Bristol in the UK.


This great ship spent years rotting in the Falkland Islands,while being used as a storage hulk.


200,000 people turned out to celebrate her return in 1970, after being towed bac and placed in a dry doc in Bristol.



It took over 11 million pounds to stabilise and restroe this ever lasting reminder of this Victorian Wonder.



Isambard kingdom brunel built 3 iron ships in Bristol,The Clifton Suspension Bridge and The Great Western railway. He came second (to Sir Winston Churchill) in a BBC poll in 2002 to find the Greatest Briton.

I have never heard of "Lordi". Wild and exciting comes to mind. A Finnish clergyman, (Father Mitro Repo) is quoted as saying :

Japanese Balloon Bombs.

Here is a interesting story from World War Two.

Some 9,000 balloons made of paper or rubberized silk and carrying anti-personnel and incendiary bombs were launched from Japan during a five-month period, to be carried by high altitude winds more than 6,000 miles eastward across the Pacific to North America.

When I started this Blog, I planned to make it interesting with fun and useful bits of information.

Today I am going to break this rule .......


The BBC felt it necessary to show an interview with Gary Glitter from a Vietnamese prison as a major news item. Glitter, whose real name Is Paul Gadd ( A 1970's pop singer), is serving a 3 year sentence for sexually molesting two young girls in Vietnam.

Glitter left Britain after being given a four month jail sentence in Nov 1999, after admitting possession of 4,000 hardcore photographs of children being abused.


In 2002, he was deported from Cambodia. The Deputy Prime Minister, asked him to leave as a " Preventative Measure for Protecting the Well Being of Our Children ".


Why shoud this person be allowed prime time TV news to air his views and plead his innocence.


In my opinion the BBC has committed an Injustice to us , The Public !

This is a great view of Paris at Night. It's a 360 Degree Rotating view and it's stunning.



I have finally been able to connect my old desktop to my network, it's a bit slow but it works. I am clearing lots of junk from it and hopefully it will run faster. I am able to file share all the files on desktop from my laptop. I am learning about networking and I am enjoying it.

Daughter in Miami.

Our daughter katie flew to Miami on Tuesday. She sent this picture from her mobile to my mobile. Not a bad picture. Wish I was there.


We have to look after her two hamsters ( little rodents related to the rat family are not my favourite creatures.



Well, it is only for nine or ten days, so thats not too bad.

The name “hamster” is derived from the German word “hamstern” which means “to hoard”.

Below is a picture I received this week. I am not worried about Bird Flu, I think and hope the government, has sorted it out. The bottom line is that there is not a complete way to stop it entering a country. The controls and support must be in place to cover the effects when it does come.
